WHAT'S WITH THE PLUS?

I had a feeling you'd be here. Granted, there's only 6 menu options to choose from, so my odds were pretty good. But, let's be honest. It wasn't an exhaustive click through the list that brought you here--you want to know what's with the plus adhered to the end of my job title.

The plus is a promise to myself and it's one I've kept since I started working toward my career in advertising. It's a promise that I will always have something more to learn no matter how far along I get. It's a promise that I will always ask more of myself, so that today's Dylan can kick yesterday's Dylan's ass. It's a promise that I'll seek beyond my job title and understand all aspects of the business as well as I'm expected to understand a creative brief. And, as you've read, it's a promise that can be phrased many different ways. I'm a copywriter, that's my promise and that's my plus.

As for another plus; we're in the middle of a recession, the invisible hand is giving us all the middle finger, and I couldn't be any more excited. This is what advertising is all about. We exist to solve our client's problems, big or small, and this one's a doozy. I'm ready to have my job be on the line as much as my client's--a partnership where their success is my success, and their failure, my own. The economy has collapsed, not our wits and drive. This is the challenge to show what we're made of and push beyond ourselves. Save the barrel and suspenders for another day, and let's, you and me, get a pat on the back from the invisible hand instead.
